Join us at the Community Soil Lab at Cottonwood Urban Farm for our monthly Lab Lesson! The Community Soil Lab is a space for community members to learn about soil health through a whole ecosystem perspective integrating biology, chemistry, physical properties, and community knowledge 🪱🧪🥼🌱
Every second Saturday of the month, we offer opportunities to learn about soil health in our soil lab built in a shipping container on an urban farm! Our Community Soil Lab has the capacity to learn about our local soils through tests including water properties (moisture content, water holding capacity), pH, electrical conductivity, NPK, and Fungi:Bacteria (F:B) ratios.
This month’s topic will be… NPK! What is NPK? N = Nitrogen P = Phosphorus K = Potassium These are the macro-nutrients of soil that are needed by plants and other living organisms throughout their life cycles. Join us as we learn about what the nutrients in our soils tell us about soil health in our community!
