Lab Lessons at the Community Soil Lab: Soil pH

  • Cottonwood Urban Farm Ventura Canyon Avenue Los Angeles, CA United States (map)

Join us at the Community Soil Lab at Cottonwood Urban Farm for our monthly Lab Lesson! The Community Soil Lab is a space for community members to learn about soil health through a whole ecosystem perspective integrating biology, chemistry, physical properties, and community knowledge 🪱🧪🥼🌱

Every second Saturday of the month, we offer opportunities to learn about soil health in our soil lab built in a shipping container on an urban farm! Our Community Soil Lab can learn about our local soils through tests including water properties (moisture content, water holding capacity), pH, electrical conductivity, NPK, and Fungi: Bacteria (F:B) ratios.

This month’s topic will be… soil pH! Knowing the pH of soil and compost can tell us important information about what nutrients are available to plants in our soils. Come learn about how you can test pH in soil, and what your results may say about soil health in your community!
