Compost for Purchase

Thank you for your interest in purchasing compost from LA Compost and supporting community composting!  We are committed to compost access for residents of Los Angeles.  

We offer compost to the community at no cost, seasonally, at our regional hubs and farmers’ markets throughout Los Angeles County. Check our event calendar here and look for events with "Distribution" in the title. 

If you would like to request compost sooner than the indicated distribution dates or in larger volumes, we offer compost for sale in three sizes:

Compost Tea Bags

Suitable for making one 5-gallon batch of compost tea.

Cost: $5 per bag

Burlap Bag Compost (1 CF bag, roughly 7.5 gallons)

Suitable for amending a tree, vegetables, or a small garden.

3 bag maximum per order.

Cost: $20 per bag

Bulk Compost for Pick up

Suitable for larger greening projects such as amending raised beds.

Ten 27-gallon totes (3.5 cubic feet each) maximum per order.

Bulk Compost Ordering Info:

  • Bulk Sales are available for pickup only at this time.

  • Bulk compost is available at a sliding scale. The true cost of producing and fulfilling compost is the "Resourced and Aware" Category. This price per 27-gallon tote takes into consideration the labor of our Compost Managers and Program Managers in addition to materials and resources like water, tools, and transportation.

    Community Rate: $25 per 27-gallon tote

    Capacity to Give: $45 per 27-gallon tote

    Resourced and Aware: $60 per 27-gallon tote

  • The compost is transported either in bulk or in totes. We recommend picking up compost with a vehicle like a truck that can be loaded with compost. If you do not have a truck, compost will be transported in 27-gallon totes. We require that totes are returned to the pickup site within 2 weeks. If they are not returned, we will charge a fee of $15 a tote to compensate for the non-returned totes.

  • After the form is filled out, we will review your order and get back to you within one week (5 business days). We will follow up with a receipt of your order, an invoice, and a pick-up confirmation.

  • Compost orders are reviewed on a weekly basis and you should receive a response within one week.  Pick-up dates, times and locations will be coordinated case by case.  Our pickup windows are generally Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings and Sunday afternoons.  We ask for patience as we are doing our best to fulfill each request in a timely manner!
