Who Can Participate: We invite you to participate solo, in pairs, or as a team! Team leads of groups should email Elena Lopez at elena@lacompost.org with the subject line “CCAD Group: [Company Name]” to reserve spots for your team members.
Age requirement: Activity open to ages 12 and up with adult chaperones onsite. Volunteers 16 years and up may attend independently with guardian consent.
Benefits for Challenge Participants:
Fuel Up: Fight your cravings before fighting food waste with pastries from Porto’s Bakery and fruit from local farmers.
Giveaways: All “challengers" will have the chance to win their own LA Compost Swag, Kitchen Waste Pails, seedlings and more!
Make it Count: Community service credit hours can be verified upon request.
Compost Challenge Actions (What Volunteers Will Be Working On):
All challengers will be matched with a composting activity of their choosing or ability level. Activities will vary across sites but may include any of the following:
Layering food scraps to compost piles
Adding mulch to the compost system
Turning the compost pile
Watering the composting area
Sifting finished compost
Moving material with a wheelbarrow
Adding finished compost to garden beds or fruit trees
