LA Compost’s Annual
Pumpkin Smash
Bring your pumpkin for a smashing good time!
Don’t Let Your Pumpkin Haunt the Landfill!
Each year, around 1.3 billion pounds of pumpkins in the U.S. are expected to be sent to landfills , where they release harmful methane gas that contributes to global warming. But there’s a better way—composting!
Join us for our Annual Pumpkin Smash events from November 8-30th, and help turn your pumpkin back into nutrient-rich soil. Composting your pumpkin nourishes the Earth, reduces waste, and supports a healthier environment.
What to Expect:
Meet our staff and learn about the incredible work happening in green spaces across LA, where hundreds of pounds of food scraps from community members are transformed into nutrient-rich compost each week.
Then, it’s time to smash those pumpkins and add them to the compost pile!
Stick around to volunteer (no experience needed) or explore the compost hub.
Important:
Please ensure your pumpkins are free of paint, glitter, or any non-organic materials before composting.
